The United States Mint issued a series of three commemorative coins in 1993 to celebrate the Bill of Rights, which was added to the Constitution a little over 200 years ago.The designs of the coin prominently feature James Madison, who appears on the obverse of the $5 gold, silver dollar, and half dollar coins. The reverse of the $5 gold coin includes a quote from James Madison, the silver dollar includes a view of his home at Montpelier, and the half dollar includes the torch of freedom.
Proof and uncirculated versions of each coin were available. The maximum mintages were set at 1,000,000 half dollars, 900,000 silver dollars, and 300,000 of the $5 gold.
