1995 Special Olympics Commemorative Coins

A silver dollar commemorative coin was issued in 1995 for the Special Olympic World Games held in Connecticut.

The obverse featured a portrait of Eunice Kennedy Shriver. She was notable as the first living female depicted on a legal tender United States coin. The reverse featured a rose and a quote, "As we hope for the best in them, hope is reborn in us."

The coins were limited to a maximum authorized mintage of 800,000 coins. Around 450,000 coins were eventually sold due to a large purchase from a corporate benefactor.
