1998 Black War Patriots Commemorative Coins

The 1998 Black Revolutionary War Patriots Silver Dollar depicts Crispus Attucks, the first patriot killed in the Boston Massacre. There was actually no known picture of him, so the portrait is an artist's conception.

The maximum authorized mintage for the commemorative coin issue was 500,000. Total sales reached just over 100,000, composed of 37,210 uncirculated coins and 75,070 proof coins.

The low mintages led the coins to carry high premiums on the secondary market. This was one of two programs authorized for the year.
