2000 Library of Congress Commemorative Coins
A commemorative coin program was authorized to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Library of Congress. A gold and platinum bimetallic $10 coin was produced as well as a silver dollar.This represented the first time that the US Mint produced a bimetallic coin. In the secondary market, prices for the uncirculated version increased due to a low mintage of 7,261. The proof version had am mintage of 27,445.
The silver dollar had production of 53,264 and 198,503 for the uncirculated and proof versions, respectively.
