2005 Marine Corps Commemorative Coins
Commemorative silver dollars were issued for the 230th anniversary of the Marine Corps. This issue proved extremely popular with collectors due to the obverse design, which portrays the famous flag raising at Iwo Jima. The reverse design of the coin features the emblem of the Marines, which consists of an eagle, globe, and anchor.The maximum mintage of the issue was 600,000 pieces, which was increased on the authority of the Treasury Secretary. Final sales totaled 548,810 of the proof version and 49,671 of the uncirculated version.
